The Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria runs the Monastery of Saint Mina, which is in the Western Desert near Alexandria. It is a tribute to Saint Menas, whose founder was “Pope Cyril VI of Alexandria.” The new monastery was built near the ruins of Abu Mena, which was the first pilgrimage site and dates back to the middle of the 7th century.
